DURA-PLATE

Dura-Plate, offered by TechPlate, Inc., is a thin dense chromium alloy deposit applied directly to the basis metal in accordance with AMS 2438 & AMS-QQ-C-320 Type II Class 2 under rigid quality controls to produce an amazing wear and corrosion-resistant surface.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS CONCLUSIVELY PROVE THAT SURFACES TREATED WITH DURA-PLATE DEPOSITS OF .0002" MAX THICKNESS  ARE HARDER AND HAVE SUPERIOR ANTI-FRICTION, ANTI-CORROSION AND INCREASED LUBRICITY PROPERTIES THAN PARTS NOT.

PARAMETER  DURA-PLATE PROPERTIES
ADHESION: Dura-Plate will not chip, flake, crack, peel or separate from the base material under standard ASTM bend tests or under conditions of extreme heat or cold. Dura-Plate is compatible with both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, allows maximum design selection of base materials. 
HARDNESS: Dura-Plate has an equivalent hardness of 68-70 Rc when deposited. Measured by conventional micro hardness methods, the host material will modify this measurement to some small degree. Vickers Diamond measurements produce a 1020-1100 hardness rating.

CONFORMITY: Dura-Plate conforms to the base metal surface. All threads, flutes, even scratches are reproduced in detail. RMS finish will improve slightly, to a low of about 8 RMS. Below 4 RMS the process may deter slightly. Internal and external surfaces on nearly all shapes and configurations processed. In general, slots or grooves less than .187 wide, having a depth greater than width, and bores less than .187 in diameter may not be uniformly processed (Such parts should be submitted for test runs). The finished Dura-Plate coated surface will have excellent lubricity properties.
THICKNESS: Dura-Plate coating will range from .000010" to .0006" per side. Normal proven average deposits are in the .0001" to .0002" per side range. Tolerances can be held to +/- .000025" on deposits up to .0002" per side. The Dura-Plate creates minimum "edge build-up". Dura-Plate thickness is always in direct relation to the base metal, and will vary from one base metal to another. However, thickness established for each will remain constant and predictable. 
EFFECT ON
BASE METAL:
Dura-Plate will not significantly affect the tensile, yield or fatigue properties of the base material. It will not affect a growth of more than .0002" per side under normal conditions, eliminating the need to undersize designs in most applications.
HYDROGEN
EMBRITTLEMENT:
Dura-Plate processing and pre-process surface preparation minimize the embrittlement phenomenon from occurring. All parts are post-plate baked.
CORROSION
RESISTANCE:
Dura-Plate resists attack by most organic and inorganic compounds (except sulfuric and hydrochloric acids). Porosity of base metals and imperfect surface finishes can affect the corrosion-resistant properties of Dura-Plate. However, all base materials that are Dura-Plate coated will be enhanced.
HEAT
RESISTANCE:
Dura-Plate will withstand temperatures of -400°F to 1800° F. At elevated temperatures above 1600°F it will react with carbon monoxide, sulfur vapor and phosphorus. At bright red heat oxidation occurs in steam or alkali hydroxide atmospheres. Hardness and wear resistance will be reduced significantly at temperatures above 1600°F.
SAFETY: Dura-Plate is FDA/USDA approved for use, without concern, on food processing equipment.
AESTHETICS: Dura-Plate is used as the final coating on parts and equipment, imparting a beautiful satiny silver "mat" or "micro-orange peel" finish.
SUBMISSION: Parts to be Dura-Plate processed should be submitted with a drawing indicating the surface requiring Dura-Plate and areas not to be processed. Masking is generally not required. Material designation of the part should be specified. Internal as well as external areas can be readily processed.
FINISHING: Parts should be surface finished prior to shipment to Dura-Plate. Removal of paint, scale, rust or corrosion, by Dura-Plate will result in extra charges. Surfaces will not be changed significantly in configuration by the Dura-Plate process. Dura-Plate will not fill scratches, pits, or dents, but will conform to such imperfections. Removal of oil, grease or protective covering that does not adhere will be done by Dura-Plate at no expense to the customer, except in cases of excessive applications.
SHIPMENT
TO TECHPLATE:
All parts should be properly wrapped and preserved in order to protect against damage and/or corrosion and then shipped in suitable containers to give maximum protection, both prior to and after the Dura-Plate process. Hand-carried parts will be paper wrapped or bagged prior to delivery. 
PRICE: The price of Dura-Plate processing is determined by the  configuration and surface area of the part. Cost estimates can be obtained from detailed drawing and actual prices determined by processing of test parts. 
Minimum Charge is $120.00 (or if on aluminum $400.00).
TESTING: Sample test parts will be processed by TechPlate for a minimum charge. Test samples should be submitted with detailed drawings or a letter illustrating the critical areas where Dura-Plate is to be applied.

Dura-Plate is used across a variety of industries and for a multitude of purposes.
